Mathias S. Pearson
Cello
We are delighted to welcome Mathias, a great cello talent from our collaboration with Ung Klassisk to the festival for the first time.
About the Artist
Mathias is a Norwegian cellist and chamber musician from Kristiansand. He completed his bachelor’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague in 2022, with excellent results both as a soloist and chamber musician.
He then continued with master’s studies at the same institution under Michel Strauss and Jan-Ype Nota, specialising in chamber music and orchestral playing. During his master’s studies, he held an academy position with the Residentie Orkest and continues to work with the ensemble as a substitute musician. In January 2026, he moved back to Norway wanting to take an active part in Norway’s culture scene.
He founded the Brioso Trio together with violinist Martine Velthuis and pianist Mieke Verduijn. The trio has performed at venues such as Concertgebouw de Vereeniging in Nijmegen and Amare in The Hague, and has received several prizes, including third prize at the Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival in 2023 and the Gelre Chamber Music Competition in 2022. They have received coaching and masterclasses from renowned musicians such as Alfred Brendel, Bruno Giuranna and members of Cuartetto Casals.
In 2026, he won first prize and the soloist prize at Ung Klassisk Talent in Arendal, and will perform as a soloist with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra in 2027.
