Schumann Quartet
String quartet
Three brothers (with a very famous surname), and a violist, who live up to what the name suggests. We've secured one of the hottest string quartets on a star-studded firmament.
About the Artist
Fire and energy... undoubtedly one of the very best ensembles among today's abundance of quartets... sparkling virtuosity and readiness to surprise. [translated from German]
The journey to the top started early for the brothers Erik, Ken, and Mark Schumann. You can hear it. Together with fourth member Veit, this is a quartet with an advantage few others have: They play and think with one mind, and together they've seized the opportunities that have lifted them to the top tier.
Schumann Quartet has won the most important prizes in the chamber music world: Premio Paolo Borciani, first prize in Bordeaux, and Opus Klassik for the album "Intermezzo" with soprano Anna Lucia Richter. They have also been quartet in residence at chamber music's most important venue, Wigmore Hall in London.
But it's not the prizes that define them. It's the philosophy. They challenge and play music in new and unfamiliar ways. They want the music to live. It is with great pleasure we present the quartet's Norwegian premiere here in Risør.
A work really develops only in a live performance. On stage, all imitation disappears, and you automatically become honest with yourself.
Concerts

Beethoven's string quartet will finally be performed in Risør Church again. But the first part of the concert is crucial to understanding Beethoven's last great work.
At Home with Per Christen & Julie
People of Risør open their homes so you can experience chamber music as chamber music was meant to be. Intimate and unfiltered, here you get very close to the artists and the music.
The Pioneers
Haydn and Beethoven were trailblazers, but they weren't alone in being first with new ideas and approaches. Here we celebrate those who took the leap.
