Victor Julien‑Laferrière
Cello
France has a strong cello tradition, and Victor is next in line of virtuosos from this proud nation. An incredibly driven artist who knows how to carry the important heritage forward.
About the Artist
There are many ways to reach the top, and some journeys don't always make the most headlines. Those who experience these somewhat mysterious stars live, however, know well that prizes and competitions don't always tell the whole story.
In 2017, Victor won the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels – one of the world's most prestigious music competitions – in the first year the cello was included. The following year he received the Victoire de la Musique, France's equivalent of the Grammy for classical music. So he has a CV to match.
What makes him a rare find is his enormous work capacity and artistic vision. He's not just a fantastic cellist but also a promising career as a conductor.
He impressed Norwegian audiences at the now-closed Rosendal Chamber Music Festival. Since his quality is confirmed, we're now bringing him to Risør.
